Personal Development Plan #3
When you feel that your life is in need of a total makeover - new relationships, new job, a healthier body, better sleep - it can be overwhelming to know where to begin. I have found that the cornerstone of every personal development plan includes learning how to get in shape. Your body is the vehicle through which you drive your own life. And, when a car is properly tuned and maintained, it is much easier to quickly get to where you want to go.
Making better eating choices and increasing your physical strength and stamina will give you the energy needed to make real changes in other areas of your life. When you think about it, it really makes sense, because one of the reasons people fail to make changes is due to lack of energy. "I am too tired" is the common complaint.
Eating junk food does not give your body the fuel it needs to run efficiently. Also, heavier cars are slower cars, as it takes much more engine power to keep going. The same holds true for your body: if it is carrying around excess weight, it will take more of your energy in order to do the same tasks as a person who is in shape. Even if you are of normal weight, if you don't eat well and don't work on your fitness, you will feel drained at the end of the day. When you lack energy, every area of your life is affected: your relationships, your mental well being, your work, and it can leave you feeling like you are stuck in a rut. The more energy it takes you just to do the basics in life, then the less energy you will have left over to make changes in your life.
On the days when I exercise, my mood lifts, I am more creative, more loving and understanding, and more optimistic about my future. I find that my attention span is longer and I am better able to cope with stress and life's many demands.
Exercising is a great way to boost self confidence, too. When your legs, stomach, and back become stronger, you feel more confident. And, when your clothes fit better, you mentally feel better about yourself, too. Improving self esteem ignites your courage, allowing it to burn brighter and stronger with every new achievement you experience. So, it is a good idea to start your personal development plan by learning how to get in shape.
