Perception Process
Knowing the perception process that preception creates reality, I struggled with the following questions: How do you change your beliefs in order to see your world and yourself differently? For many months, I walked around, frustrated, and muttering, "How? How?" I read a lot of self-help books and all the authors had it figured out...They already knew that they were fantastically great people. I was looking for something that would help me with the very first step of changing my perception about who I was and what I had to offer in this world. In other words, I was struggling to change my perception process. I mean I needed the smallest of first steps to know how to go about this mysterious "changing your life" and "living in awareness or the "Now". I felt confused and directionless. When would this magical change happen in my life? One night, a little PO'ed about the situation, I decided to take the perception process into my own hands. I made up my own new thoughts that I could use to bring about change in my life. Short, descriptive, powerful sentences that I could use in place of negative thoughts. Knowing that perception is reality, I literally set about using the words below to change my life. Below are the thoughts that worked for me, titled "Honor You". I copied this directly from my journal, unaltered. I hope they serve as inspiration for some of you, too. Here are words that I used: Honor you. Honor who you are. Who you are right now. Your beauty. Your genius. Your worth. Recognize that you have never made a bad decision. You have made no mistakes. YOU are not a mistake. You are significant. Your love. Your caring. Love is an honor. YOU ARE HONOR. You are life. You are magnificence. You are strength. You can alter the way you perceive things. What kind of reality will you create for yourself?

In fact, I later learned that because I was living in a constant state of low-level stress and anxiety, the chemicals in my brain had changed, making me more anxious and depressed. Clearly, merely managing my symptoms was not enough - in fact, following "the doctor's orders" made things worse.... Continue Reading
