Three Stages to Really Believing Positive Sayings & Motivational Thoughts

Some people live and breathe positive sayings and motivational thoughts. Their consciousness and life happiness are very high. Other people must repeat to themselves over and over positive sayings and motivational thoughts; they struggle because they do not believe. Their consciousness and life bliss are low.

When consciousness is low, you are caught up in your own life's dramas. Since you are struggling in your life, you think that anything of value must be a struggle to achieve. At this stage, people think that if they want to be happy, then they have to work hard for it.

Therefore, their approach to incorporating positive sayings and motivational thoughts into their frantic lives is to frantically repeat sayings and thoughts over and over again. After a few days, you start to feel better, as the positive sayings and thoughts become seeds in your mind. After a few weeks, the sayings and thoughts are firmly rooted and you become a positive, happy person...for a while.

Then, one day, you wake up feeling anxious again. "Life can't really be OK!" you tell yourself. "Something must be wrong if I feel this good", or, "I am worried because I am not worrying anymore", or, "I can't stop worrying...I haven't achieved my dreams yet."

This is the second stage of getting to the point where you can really believe positive sayings and motivational thoughts. People get freaked out when nothing is wrong, because their lives are no longer a struggle. Transitioning from a life of struggle to a life of ease can be unsettling. A lot of people decide to throw the good thoughts back into the pond and start fishing for their old thoughts and behaviors again. A drama filled life is familiar, a blissful life is unknown.

These people tend to say that positive sayings and motivational thoughts don't really work, because they didn't work for them. They argue that they tried to think positive and that their lives are still the same. They don't realize that it was working and that they have now regressed to their old habits.

How can you go from being comfortable with being uncomfortable to being comfortable with being comfortable? My favorite way to do this is to grant myself permission to be stress-free, with the promise to myself that I will "check-in" to see if I am dropping the ball on anything. For example:

1. "Something must be wrong if I feel this good" >> Is it true that something is wrong? Why assume that the negative scenario is the truth? Couldn't I say, "I must be doing something right if I feel this good"? If something was in fact wrong, I could still feel good while fixing it.

2. "I am worried because I am not worrying anymore" >> Isn't it OK not to worry? Didn't I want a worry free life? Have I truly forgotten to do something? If I have, then there is still time for me to do it.

3. "I can't stop worrying...I haven't achieved my dreams yet." >> Am I 100% sure that worrying was the thing that led to me achieving my dreams? In the past, didn't I work hard to make my dreams come true, too?

People often assume that they have to live life at a fast pace in order to make their dreams come true. They think that activity leads to results. But, there is a difference between action that leads to results versus action that feels like it will lead to results. Actively using positive sayings and motivational thoughts is an action that leads to results. Allowing set backs to get you off track will cause you to lose motivation and will not lead to the desired results.

Setbacks tend to get you off track and cause you to lose motivation because you tend to blow them out of proportion. When something derails you, you might say, "The Universe is working against me! It doesn't want me to be happy!" That thought is a red flag that old thoughts of struggle are still with you and that you are characterizing one event as a global conspiracy. Setbacks will inevitably arise as you transition from a stressful to a blissful life. It is very important to remember that they are small bumps on your life's road.

Letting go of a life of struggle can be helped by positive sayings and motivational thoughts. There is always a way to do something without having to struggle.
