Mistaken Beliefs

Mistaken beliefs are like a fungus. If you don't treat them quickly, they will continue to grow and grow in your head. Unfortunately, you act in ways - and you get other people to treat you in ways - that confirm these beliefs.

This week, I will identify some of these beliefs and next week we will go over how to treat them.

Can you spot any of these mistaken beliefs in your life?

1. My needs don't matter. Other people's needs come first.

2. I am a failure.

3. I am a lousy parent, partner, friend.

4. If I get stressed out enough, my problems will get better or go away.

5. If I worry enough, my problems will get better or go away.

6. Life is scary.

7. I can't handle the natural ups and downs of life.

8. I don't have the energy.

9. I don't have the time.

10. If things go my way, something bad will happen.

11. I can't control my feelings.

12. I don't have control of my life.

13. I am anxious all the time.

14. I am unattractive.

15. Bad things happen to me.

16. It is too difficult to change.

17. I hope no one finds out that I am not good enough.

18. If I get rejected, it is my fault.

19. I can't let others see who I really am.

20. I don't have enough money.

After Years of Misery from Anxiety and Depression, I Gained My Life Back

Exhausted? Stressed-out? Overwhelmed?

Hi,

Courtney here, author of this site. When I developed anxiety and depression, I went to a psychologist, a psychiatrist and a physician, and to be truthful, in my experience, these people couldn't really help.Therapy sessions, yoga and getting more exercise lessened my anxiety symptoms, but did not stop them for good.

In fact, I later learned that because I was living in a constant state of low-level stress and anxiety, the chemicals in my brain had changed, making me more anxious and depressed. Clearly, merely managing my symptoms was not enough - in fact, following "the doctor's orders" made things worse....
