How to Change Your Life
Figuring out how to change your life requires totally new ideas about the life you can have. Ideas about ways to change your life must resonate deep within you and, additionally, they must be actionable. This article will focus on how to change your life in 4 steps and create a more inspiring and more meaningful life.
Basically, life changes occur either as a result of large scale institutional changes or at the individual, personal level. Both ways to change your life will work, but institutional changes tend to leave people frustrated, while ways to change your life at the personal level are encouraging and uplifting.
Learning new information is a key component of figuring out how to change your life and make a transformation. Note, that more information does not mean better information. In order to achieve transformation, it means getting select, compelling, powerful, and relevant information that has new content, new rules, and new goals for ways to change your life.
People tend to resist changes in the type and structure of information they receive. But, if you want to figure out how to change your life, then you need new tools and new information sources in order to do so. You can't go through the same actions and expect a different life. Trust me on this one...I have banged my head against that wall many times when trying to change my life.
To innovate your life, you need to perceive your life in a fresh way and that means fresh information, coming to you in fresh ways or "informational flows". These "flows" will provide you with fresh ways to change your life.
The 4 Steps to Change Your Life Are:
1. Create a compelling vision of your future life. Imagine what you really, really, really want (yes, three "reallys"). Take 30 minutes and write down 40 things that you want. As you approach the last 5 minutes or so, you may notice that is much harder to keep writing. That is because you have already written down the "wants" that somebody taught you to want, and you have written down the "wants" that you think you have to settle for.
So what is left? The "wants" that you really, really, really want. At the end of 30 minutes, you should be able to describe your vision with enough clarity for a 10 year old child to draw it on paper.
2. Be truthful. Truth fuels growth and change. Clear thinking and logical behavior and actions are the results of living a life that is congruent with the truth. Growth is limited by misinformation and untruths. The more often you can eliminate bad information and lies, the easier it is to figure out how to change your life.
3. Learn. Learning means making new decisions and new actions and then learning from them. Action is a critical component because vision without action has no value and produces zero results. Conversely, taking action that is visionless is a stupid waste of time. So, the key is to take action that is in alignment with your vision and then learn from the results, so that you can try out ways to change your life.
Learning from your action means taking the time to realize if your action was ineffective. And, how do you realize that? By being truthful that you made a mistake. In order to learn, you will make mistakes, then you will have to be truthful about them, and then you move on and try more actions.
4. Love. Be loving, generous, and understanding. Practice patience with yourself as you take action to create a vision of the future that you can certainly have. When you start to doubt yourself and tell yourself that you are crazy, be loving and empathetic. Discover and trust your best instincts. Remember your vision of what you really, really, really want? My bet is that love is on your list. Practice love in order to be the result that you want.
