Get More Motivated
When I need to get more motivated, nothing beats taking a long walk outside. When I am stressed, angry, or discouraged a walk always centers me. I prefer to walk on the beach because the vast blue ocean and the miles of open sand in front of me, lessen the enormity of my problems.
Essentially, taking a walk allows me to take a "time out" from life's flurry. It is that mental clarity that makes walking such an effective way to get more motivated.
Taking a walk is so simple and yet few people do it.
You don't have to wear sneakers, or walk fast, or carry weights in order to reap benefits. There is something powerful about taking time for yourself, to be alone in nature, with no distractions. It is invigorating, uplifting, and a sure-fire way to get more motivated.
Taking a walk is one of the few times I have solitude in my life (besides the bathroom). I get to clear my head and reconnect with nature. It is one of the few ways that I get to move my body for an extended period of time. Walking tones my body and my mind.
It is best to walk outside instead of in a gym. No exercise machines, TV, music, or crying kids. Walking outside allows you to truly focus on yourself and your thoughts, with no distractions.
You can actually hear yourself think. You breathe deeper and your heart pumps a little faster, invigorating your mind and body. Your blood flows faster through your body, revitalizing you.
Your thoughts become clear.
There is power in clarity. It frees up your mind to think about new things. And, in that instant, I often have sensational insights and realizations. In the blink of an eye, I can see the solution to a problem that has been weighing on me. I literally feel lighter.
Once you clear your mind, it is much easier to solve your problems. This is a heady and magical state to be in. It is pretty darn cool to realize that you are capable of solving your own problems. Once more, you are in control of the course of your life.
Imagine what your life would be like if you took a walk every day. Imagine how your future outlook would change, how your opinion of yourself and what you think you are capable of would change.
You have gained clarity, solved problems, increased bloodflow, and reduced your stress. All of that from the simple act of taking a walk. Pretty amazing, huh?
