Emotional Motivation

Self awareness fuels the flame of emotional motivation. The more self aware you are, then the more motivation you have.

What is awareness? It is being alive, awake, being conscious, and having controlled thought or observation. It is the self recognizing that it has command over the mind.

The hard part is that becoming more aware requires you to have a level of self-awareness in the first place. It is a circle. Having awareness fuels more awareness. Awareness is a source of daily motivation, and as the days stack up, your emotional motivation will soar. As your self-awareness grows, you automatically become a more conscious person. Think of it like a soft, flickering flame that you want to flare-up into a bonfire.

First, make the decision to create more daily motivation by raising your awareness. Put your intention on raising it. Simply say to yourself, "I intend to raise my level of awareness." This one simple, yet powerful, sentence sets in motion the growth of your awareness. Sayng this out loud is important - it helps you to really own the decision.

If you don't state your intention, then you are pretty much saying that you are fine with your current level of emotional motivation. You have to make the decision to be different before you can do different.

The root of awareness is truth. The more truthful you are, the faster you raise your level of awareness. Be truthful with yourself. Is your life really going the way you want it to go? Do you honestly know how much you weigh? Are you really a carefree, easy going person or are you afraid to take chances? Being honest with yourself is the only way to move forward. You have to know where you are and who you truly are in order to move on. Increase your emotional motivation to change and get there faster.

Accept where you are; no excuses or explanations. If you are sad, depressed, or pissed off, then that's what you are right now. You don't have to like it, but you do have to own up to it. As you accept the truth of your circumstances, your level of awareness will rise. I have found that awareness is like an onion, with more layers revealing themselves as you peel back the skin. Awareness through honesty is a gradual, building process. As you become honest in one area of your life, it becomes easier to be honest in others.

Becoming honest can suck at times, though. For example, last year I gained 20 pounds in a matter of 3 months. When I went shopping at the after Christmas sales, I kept telling my friend that I was a size 6. In February of this year, I was finally honest with myself that I was now a size 10. When it came up in conversation with this same friend, she said, "You said you were a size 6. You haven't gained anymore weight since then. So, why did you say you were an 6 if you are really a 10?" Ummm...because I was lying to myself and inadvertently to you.

This is a small example of how much dishonesty can permeate so many areas of our lives and affect our communication and relationships with others on even the smallest of matters. If people don't like your new behavior, it won't really matter once you acknowledge and accept who you are. Being honest far outweighs being dishonest.

Being focused raises awareness. When we are not focused, we let in too many distractions and our ability to be more conscious diminishes. Daily motivation is smothered by too many distractions.

Focus is really about strengthening your concentration muscles. I have a favorite palm tree on the beach that I choose to focus on. I give it my full attention and everything else disappears. The amazing thing is how it changes my mindset. My awareness of life, myself, the tree...its inexplicable. My emotional motivation soars. Go find something - anything - from nature (a leaf, a rock, a flower, a tree) and focus on it. Your focused mind is a powerful mind.

After Years of Misery from Anxiety and Depression, I Gained My Life Back

Exhausted? Stressed-out? Overwhelmed?

Hi,

Courtney here, author of this site. When I developed anxiety and depression, I went to a psychologist, a psychiatrist and a physician, and to be truthful, in my experience, these people couldn't really help.Therapy sessions, yoga and getting more exercise lessened my anxiety symptoms, but did not stop them for good.

In fact, I later learned that because I was living in a constant state of low-level stress and anxiety, the chemicals in my brain had changed, making me more anxious and depressed. Clearly, merely managing my symptoms was not enough - in fact, following "the doctor's orders" made things worse....
