Develop Motivation
5 Steps to Develop Motivation:
Feeling stuck? Struggling to develop motivation? Are you not living up to your full potential or falling behind on your personal development plan? At some point in their lives, everyone experiences these feelings. It is easy to get frustrated and overwhelmed when you are struggling in life and it feels as though the world is against you. Friends, relatives, or coworkers appear to have easier lives, and that burns. So, how can you increase your ability to have more of what you want in life?
We all have the power to access our great potential and change our lives for the better. I am certain that you have the ability to make a difference in your life and your loved ones' lives.
Here are some ways to develop motivation:
1. Figure out what your truly want. Your dream desire. What makes you excited? When do you "light up"? What can't you stop talking about? Focusing on your passion will give you the strength and energy to overcome life's obstacles and to continue on, even after a set-back. If you enjoy the activity, you will keep doing it, regardless of the outcome. When you find happiness in the process (not the outcome), then you will get motivated and stay motivated for the long run.
2. open to the possibility that you can achieve your dreams. I once heard someone say, "You only know of 10 solutions to an issue, but Gods knows millions." Whenever I feel stuck, that quote reminds me to stay open to new opportunities, people, and experiences; you never know where they will take you.
3. Focus on the tiny victories. Thoughout my life, whenever I focused on solving big problems or achieving big results, I eventually ended up feeling stuck because I couldn't see how to get the big results. Paradoxically, when I focused on tiny victories, results come easily.
It is invigorating and encouraging when I solve a problem or achieve a goal, no matter how small it is. The other day in the airport, I could have chosen to take the escalator or to walk up a long flight of stairs. A big goal of mine has been to get in shape and there are days when I feel as though I am not making any progress on this goal. It can feel as though I will never achieve better health. But, when I do something small, like deciding to take the stairs instead of the escalator, that small victory really sticks with me. It reminds me that in any given moment, I have the power to choose to be lazy or to be active. And, after awhile, I begin to see that I can achieve more and more victories that gradually become larger and larger.
4. Don't be a fortune teller. When you say, "I can't do it", you are predicting a negative outcome. This extinguishes any flicker of motivation to go after your dreams. It is impossible to know whether you can or can't do something, so why limit yourself? Instead, say, "If I can dream it, then there is the possibility that I can achieve it."
5. Take 5 minutes to improve your well-being. This is one of my favorite ways to develop motivation. Take a deep breath and slowly exhale. Notice the tension melting away. Take joy in the fact that you are alive, right here, right now. Your life is a gift.
